Aishwarya Shield still going strong…

The GAA’s Annual Spelling Contest took a giant leap this year as it identified itself as a National Spelling Contest and also by introducing the “Best Speller” of the contest. This new title is a zinger to the already existing legacy.

Last year it was chosen Pokhara, as our first destination. The initiation took its first step when the GAA volunteers, Diwash Shrestha (coordinator), Sahana Bajracharya (coordinator), Sandeep Sharma, Arunima Rana, along with Sean (JVI Volunteer) and Rajkumar Khatri (GAA Office Staff, headed to Pokhara for the competition on February 1.2006.

Before the actual contest, the coordinators paid a 6 day long visit (January 19-25) to Pokhara for an overall inspection, to deliver the letters and the most important, to fix the venue. St. Mary’s was a great help to us, as they provided us with their auditorium and few volunteers for the competition, whereas ASMAN too assisted us in locating schools and delivering the invitation letters to various schools in the city.

A total of 7 higher secondary schools, TOPS, SOS, St.Mary’s, Siddhartha English Boarding School, Little Step School, Navadeep and Hill Point School, eagerly registered for the competition, scheduled for February 3 and 5 (Preliminary and Final respectively).
